THE STORYTELLER             May  2008

The Storyteller contains traditional and contemporary stories from all over the world, with notes for teachers and trainers on how the tales can be exploited. Other features include articles on the art of storytelling and shamanism as well as details of publications and services that might be of interest. The resources are provided free of charge and the costs are covered by the publisher The Golem Press.

This issue contains stories from the Middle East, Poland, and China, plus an article on the shamanic themes in a Georgian folktale. If you have any stories or articles of your own that you would like to contribute, please send them to Michaelberman@blueyonder.co.uk and they will be considered for inclusion in a future issue. I would be particularly interested in stories from Azerbaijan as I have searched through the whole of the British Library catalogue and no folktales translated into English seem to have been published.

The Nature of Shamanism and the Shamanic Story, Soul Loss and the Shamanic Story, and Divination and the Shamanic Story  are now all available in hardback and can be ordered from Cambridge Scholars Publishing. For further details, please visit the publisher's website:  www.c-s-p.org. For those of you based in the UK, you can order The Nature of Shamanism and the Shamanic Story direct from me by sending a cheque for £20 (payable to Michael Berman) to my home address .

The School of Theology and Religious Studies at Bangor University, Wales, is hosting a conference about the interpretations of spirit possession between the 16th and 17th of May (held in WISCA), and I will be presenting a paper on the shamanic story there.

The other news is that the long-awaited Tell Us A Story, a resource book for teachers on storytelling, is now available in downloadable format from the Brain Friendly Publications website www.brainfriendly.co.uk
