THE STORYTELLER February - March 2010
The Storyteller contains traditional and contemporary stories from all over the world, with notes for teachers and trainers on how the tales can be exploited. Other features include articles on the art of storytelling and shamanism as well as details of publications and services that might be of interest.
This issue features a poem by the Bengali Nobel Prize Winner Rabindranath Tagore, a Pathan story, and an anecdote about Mulla Nasruddin. There is also an article on a shamanic ballad. The photo above is of an oil painting by Maka Batiashvili, an artist from the Republic of Georgia. For further examples of her work, please visit www.maka.batiashvili.net . If you have any stories or articles of your own that you would like to contribute to The Storyteller, please send them to Michaelberman@blueyonder.co.uk and they will be considered for inclusion in a future issue.
March should see the publication of All God's Creatures, a collection of short stories, both traditional and contemporary, many of which can best be described as "tales of power". Jürgen Kremer, transpersonal psychologist and spiritual practitioner, defines such texts as conscious verbal constructions based on numinous experiences in non-ordinary reality, "which guide individuals and help them to integrate the spiritual, mythical, or archetypal aspects of their internal and external experience in unique, meaningful, and fulfilling ways" (Kremer, 1988, p.192). Such stories can broaden our horizons, connect us to a vision and provide an overarching narrative for our journeys through life. The book can be bought from http://www.pendraigpublishing.com
